Massive Sprint and AT&T internet brownouts as Worm Reeks Havoc on Internet
A worm being called MM.VIRILIIE wreeks havoc on the Internet as sprint and At&t battle enormous server loads as Nortel and Cisco Routers colapse from the enormous strain that was put on it. The origin of the Virus is still unknown as network engineers try and track its original launch. Similar to the Hanson Virus last year some (over 60) are naming this thing the lady killer with a payload so large its guaranteed to take down the average router in a matter of 1 hour of less. The way the virrillie strain works is through massive firmware infection at the router level. People don't realize the bio's update until its too late. The virus actually updates Cisco routers and nortel routers firmwares with new versions that send out local attacks on well known 10.X.X.X block networks which are live yet routed through the Arin Network with no known configuration or Black Holed. These black hole networks are commonly used to hide the true ips of larger network email servers as to add to the security of a network.
Unfortunately what is commonplace for big business is just not available for the typical internet end user. Maybe if these 10.X.X.X blocks weren't live on the Arpa network one could say this would never of been made possible. The use of hubs now are commonplace to ad as a buffer between routers and mail systems. Unfortunately the mainstream of the internet today is still Java based firmwares prone to massive exploits meaning anyone working for Novell should be " Placed Under the Microscope " just to be safe.
Unfortunately due to widespread use of OpenOffice software virrili like this can spread way to easily on windows machines.
